Now, when I was toying with the idea of starting an Android gaming blog, I did a Google search to determine the site’s name. When I tested “real droid gaming” in Google, I came across a very interesting article from Wired UK, titled Android Is A Desolate Wasteland When It Comes To Games
The article really lit a fire under me. As an Android gamer, I’ll be the first to admit that there’s a lot of things that can be improved upon. The fire was big enough for me to go with Real Droid Gaming as this site’s name.
As I re-read the article recently, it’s became pretty obvious that the author was deliberately misleading readers. Some of the views and points brought out may have been true years ago, but a lot has changed today. The Android gaming landscape is a whole lot different now.
Initially, this started as an editorial to debunk the original author’s claims. As I was about 70% through, I realized I had already written 1000+ words, and most of it sounded like a disgruntled fanboy who was pissed off.
That was not my objective when starting RDG. I did not want this to be a fanboy website focused on hating on others. I wanted RDG to be a place where we can discuss objectively on our passion: Android Gaming.
So here’s the result. Instead of hating on the original article, I’ve taken the major points and turned them around. So, I’ve taken their beginning statement “Android Gaming Stinks”, and made this the “Android Gaming Is Great” Series.
Each article in this series will make the point that Android Gaming is Great. It’ll not only address the major points in the original Wired article, but will also add in points to prove why Android Gaming Is Great.
Below are the articles that will be part of the series. Links will become available as I post them. Hope you enjoy reading them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them
- Part 1: Developers WANT to develop for Android.
- Part 2: Android users DO buy games.
- Part 3: Piracy and Fragmentation is NOT a factor.
- Part 4: The Bright Future of Android Gaming
