The House Of The Dead series started off as a very popular arcade on-the-rails shooter. It was a fun game, complete with different story branches, a whole assortment of different enemies, and some very entertaining boss fights. Oh, it also had zombies. No matter whether it was the original, or the sequels, the line to play this game at the arcade was always long. The game eventually made it to gaming consoles where it fared pretty well with a GunCon-type peripheral, or the Wii’s Wiimote. Now, the series is available on Android, with the House Of The Dead Overkill : Lost Reels, which is a port of the same Wii game. Obviously the feel here is different without a gun peripheral, so can the series continue on living in the smartphone arena?

Toy Defense 2 Android Review : Fun Tower Defense At A Price
Toy Defense is a little bit misleading. Instead of a tower defense game with toys, it’s actually a tower defense game with army men toys. If you were looking for a tower defense game with dolls and teddy bears you would be disappointed. But if you were looking for a tower defense game loosely based on World War II, you’re in for a treat. The game is largely based on World War II, with the main mission mode divided into 3 campaigns: Operation Crusader, the Battle of Stalingrad, and Operation Overlord. There’s a lot to like here, with the upgrade tree providing a unique take to the tower defense genre. But the presence of in-app purchases begs the question, will this be another money grubbing game? Let’s dig in…

Must Have Android Tower Defense Games
Tower defense is an interesting genre, as it was a sub-genre of RTS games like Starcraft and Warcraft, but really gained prominence on smartphones. The touch controls feel totally natural, and made it easy to play. Nowadays there are tons of tower defense games on the Play Store, so we are saving you the trouble and listing some tower defense games that you simply MUST play. .

Strategy & Tactics : WWII Android Review : A Very Challenging Strategy Game
There’s just something about the World War II setting that people just love. It’s probably because it was the mother of all wars and people want to relive it, through games. Call of Duty and Medal of Honor are great games that have been successful in the WWII setting because it provided such a great experience as a person on the frontlines.
Then we have games like Strategy and Tactics : WWII that lets you command the armies. It’s a different perspective as you take on more of a general’s role, concentrating more and strategy and tactics to take down enemies. It certainly has its place with fans, thanks to the popularity of a particular tabletop game called Risk. So no doubt there’s an audience for the game, but is this particular game worth money?

Talisman Prologue HD Android Review : A Tabletop Game That Forgot Other Players
I pretty much grew up playing a lot of Games Workshop tabletop games, but Talisman wasn’t one of them. I guess Talisman never really could match the appeal of more “grander” games that is the Warhammer and Warhammer 40K series.Still, it looked really interesting and now with Talisman available on smartphones, I just had to try it out and see what I was missing out on more than 10 years ago.
The thing to note here is that this game is 100% the tabletop game ported over. It’s not a Dawn of War or Space Marine, where they made an RTS/FPS in the Warhammer 40K setting. It’s absolutely the tabletop game, complete with dice throwing and card drawing.

Real Boxing Android Review : A Solid Boxing Game
I am quite excited to play this game. For one, this is probably the first decent boxing game for Android, since we don’t get EA’s Fight Night series. It was also one of the first games used by Nvidia to tout its Project Shield portable console. No doubt the graphics look nice, but can the gameplay match its pretty looks?

Iron Man 3 Android Review : Gameloft Kills Iron Man
Gameloft has been the main developer when it comes to creating mobile games for Marvel/DC movies. Their last two games based on Batman: The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man were decent efforts but nothing really special. So now, Gameloft brings a game based on the Iron Man 3 movie, with a couple of noteworthy changes. First, the game is freemium, and second, the game is an endless runner.
The decision to go freemium isn’t much of a surprise, as that’s been the main direction that Gameloft has been headed for a while. Making the game an endless runner is a bit weird though. The previous Batman and Spider-Man games were mostly action games which loosely followed the movie’s plot, so making the Iron Man 3 game into an endless runner feels totally out of place. But anyways, let’s not pass judgment too quickly and have a look at the game proper.

Fieldrunners 2 Android Review : A Worthy Sequel
The original Fieldrunners was a fantastic tower defense game, and probably the best at the time. Since then though, a slew of tower defense games were released, introducing new elements and continually challenging Fieldrunners’ #1 position in the genre. Certainly not ones to rest on their laurels, the developers Subatomic Studios have released the highly anticipated Fieldrunners 2, the sequel to the hit original tower defense game. Given that so much has changed in the tower defense genre since the original release, can Fieldrunners 2 regain its spot as the #1 tower defense game?

Metal Slug 3 Android Review : The Controls Kill It
Metal Slug is probably the second most popular franchise to ever come out from SNK (King of Fighters is by far the most popular). It isn’t hard to see why: The graphic styling is great, the gameplay has a lot to offer compared to the standard platformer/shooter, the level designs are fantastic, it’s very accessible to everyone, and most important of all, it’s just fun to play. It’s very common to see the Metal Slug machine being constantly occupied by eager players. The Metal Slug series has been ported many times to consoles, and now Android has received its own port of the popular series. The gameplay is still mainly intact, but the main difference here is obviously the touch controls. So how does the Android port fare?

Freemium Games Explained!
The purpose of this particular editorial is to explain the basic traits that all freemium games share, to educate gamers out there and prevent everyone from falling to the freemium “trap”. The whole freemium/free-to-play model is not exactly a big favourite of mine, but it seems that a good number of developers have had great success with this model. The freemium fad is getting so strong that even big companies like EA Games are implementing the freemium model in their latest games.
